More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Test pit dug below treeline on a road cut. Slope is N aspect, 36 degree slope angle at 7,110' elevation. Cold slope with history of surface hoar formation earlier this season in Nov and very early Dec.

Photo 1 - ECT after 20 taps. Weak layer of basal facets is clearly seen in lower portion of the test block.

Photo 2 - ECT tap 21 = fracture propagation along facet layer and Q1 shear.
