More detailed information about the snowpack:

The snowpack on E aspects in this area above 7,800' remains in a transitional state. At 1 pm, traditional E aspect descents from the summit were marginally skier supportable with ski penetration up to 15 cm. Pole probing revealed low density wet snow below. These aspects were quickly starting to become shaded at that time of day so further melt rate was set to slow. Beyond the deep wet snow, no other signs of instability were observed.

On the more northerly aspects, well established melt freeze conditions existed below 7,300' and were in minimal existence at and above 7,800'. Thin snow cover on low elevation northerly aspects in this area remained nearly fully frozen today above the trailhead elevation of 6,830'.
