More detailed information about the snowpack: 

A decent snow surface refreeze occurred in this area last night. Surface crust around 10 cm thick existed on southerly aspects, Supportable snow surface conditions were observed on solar aspects during the morning hours. At 10:40 am, 3 to 4 cm of corn on top of supportable conditions (photo) were observed on S-SE aspects between 8,600' and 9,100'.

A test pit dug on a shaded N aspect to examine snowpack metamorphosis around the Jan 29 rain crust(s) in this area did not reveal any signs of instability. In many areas at this elevation on N and NE aspects, the snow surface has yet to undergo melt-freeze.
