More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Significant melting has occurred in this area below 7600 ft, and patches of bare ground are now exposed on even the northerly aspects. Above 7600 ft 30-60cm of snow exists on the northerly aspects. The snowpack consists of weak snow (Dec 7th facets) with slightly stronger snow above it. Snowpit tests showed inconsistent results with some tests indicating that fractures can still travel through the Dec 7th facet layers and other tests yielding more stable results. Tests indicated that areas with trigger points or more a shallow snowpack were the most likely places to find signs of instability.

Numerous rocks, stumps, logs, trees, bushes, and other obstacles lurk just below the surface on the snow covered aspects in this area.
