Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Snowpit was dug near treeline, but far enough below the ridge to be out of the zone that has received the most significant amounts of wind loading this winter. In this area a weak but stable, well faceted snowpack exists. There are several weak layers, but no significant overlying slab. With precipitation in the forecast for later this week, the near surface facets that will be the old snow surface when precip arrives will likely prove problematic. Expect either wet loose avalanches in a rain on snow event or storm slab and persistent slab avalanches if buried by 6+ inches of high density new snow.
