Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Wind slabs formed in this area just below the ridgetop on Jan 11. These wind slabs were deposited on top of faceted snow. Evidence of instability was observed in snowpit tests today with very repeatable fracture propagation along the top of the faceted weak layer at the base of the wind slab. Skier triggered cracking was highly localized to areas within a few feet of where the slab was previously undercut by the uphill ski track or by digging. Otherwise, jumping up and down on a variety of other nearby wind loaded areas produced no obvious signs of instability. Ski cuts also provided no signs of instability. Difficult to trigger wind slabs were the avalanche concern in this area today.
