Small wind slabs on Andesite.

24 hour new snow amounts of around 10 inches existed in wind protected near treeline and below treeline locations in this area. Above treeline, the most recent new snow had been deposited under very little wind. Up to 6 inches of low density snow was observed near ridgetops and available for future wind transport.

Signs of two small natural wind slab avalanches, likely having occurred late on March 24 were noted in above treeline terrain on slopes directly below cornice features. Ski kicking at small cornice features and wind pillow on test slopes today produced only minor cracking with limited propagation of 3 feet or less. Existing wind slabs were difficult to trigger, somewhere on the spectrum from stubborn to unreactive.

No signs of storm slab instability in the form of skier triggered snow surface cracking or avalanche activity were seen below treeline.
