Shallow faceted snow at Trimmer

Shallow, faceted snow on Trimmer Bonus today. Rain crust made skiing over shallowly buried obstacles possible, but I still chose not to ski Trimmer proper because of shallow snow hazards.

Pic 1: Small facets above the crust made skinning on steep traverses challenging. 2mm facets (pictured) just below the crust were everywhere I looked after leaving road, travelling on mostly N and E aspects.

Profile: Similar to several mitt pits, mid to upper pack is fairly weak, but no slab. Probing with ski pole was easy to reach the basal crust, even with basket side of pole.

The "traditional" approach to Trimmer via the NW aspect of Trimmer Bonus looked too shallow for safe travel, so I stayed on the road farther than usual into the main Trimmer drainage. Trimmer 11s appear to have enough snow for good skiing if shallow snow hazards are acceptable.
