Pre-storm snowpit from Elephant's Hump

Warm day at Carson Pass. Light E winds through mid afternoon, then switched to Moderate SW winds. Thin SCT cloud cover. Surfaces in direct sun turning to melt forms, but surfaces in indirect sun or shade were remaining dry and faceting.

Pics 1 and 2: Exposed slopes are pretty wind hammered, but right under this breakable wind crust are near surface facets. 

Profile: Really strong mid and lower snowpackpack, with really weak upper snowpack. Note some early stage faceting under the mid-pack wind slab, but the bottom of the wind slab was too irregular for an effective PST. Interesting to get all three PST result types on the three faceted layers near the rain crusts. I'm not sure there's a good reason to choose one vs the other for the layer of most concern prior to the incoming storm. Mitt pits showed similar upper snowpack structure elsewhere in the area.
