Large Surface Hoar in Johnson Canyon

Large surface hoar exists in most open areas in near and below treeline terrain.  This SH layer could become buried as our next couple small storms (Monday night through Tuesday) come in cold and with light to moderate winds.   Observations targeting the 1/5 facet layer in a shallow snowpack area found mixed results with most snowpack tests pointing towards good stability.  Unconsolidated snow exists on NE-E aspects with crusts developing on southerly aspects.
