Destructive avalanche on Slide Mountain

Couloir facing East to NE heavily windloaded from persistent SW winds and new snow. All of this new and transported snow was sitting on a sun/rain crust that formed the bed surface. Due to layer collapse and shooting cracks skiers were not taking any chances and crossed above the steeper couloir on a slope approximately 20 degrees. On the first skier's downhill traverse a 100 yard long crack shot out above the skier while traversing and the slope collapsed but did not slide. A sympathetic slide begin at the breakover into steeper terrain 75 feet below the skier's traverse line. The crown was over two feet and ran 100 yards wind and 1100 vertical feet down in a D 3/4 destructive slide. The second skier than side stepped up quite a ways above the first fracture line and crossed in a safer location.  Skiers took every precaution on this expedition and their caution definitely saved lives today.
