Stevens Pk - Corn on SE-S aspects, areas of surface hoar and surface facets on N aspects.

Touring around Stevens Peak today we looked at shaded aspects and solar aspects. On shaded aspects, we found surface hoar up to 4 mm in size that had formed last night and as of 1 pm showed that it was likely to persist through the day today. This surface hoar along with pockets of shallow surface facets up to 2 inches deep may present an issue for storm slab instability this weekend. On solar aspects, we found well developed corn conditions on SE aspects as well as on the lower E aspects below ~8,700'. On the upper elevation E aspects, transitional wet snow over dry snow remained. Wet snow condition remained supportable through the early afternoon hours. Travel conditions on all aspects were surprisingly good with smooth edgable surfaces. No signs of instability observed prior to 2 pm.
