Cloudy morning on Maggies

Cold unconsolidated snow was still present on north aspects in the Maggies area today. Wind transport of snow was observed at Maggies south summit, but we did not encounter wind slab once we entered the trees on the way to Granite Lake. Several mitt pits failed to reveal any lingering weak layer in below tree line shady terrain. Clouds were widespread until about 11:30 when we started to depart and a few blue windows appeared in the sky. Any aspect that receives sun was showing signs of a crust. Crusts varied from easily breakable to barely breakable depending on aspect and resulting amount of solar input.
