Full Profile in Nat Geo Bowl

On Thursday, 12/20/2019, we traveled back to Nat Geo Bowl to check on conditions. After experiencing moderate to strong winds on the higher peaks and ridgelines, we traveled down to 8,500' for a full profile. The 257cm snowpack exposed many layers with a number of crusts. Compression tests revealed minor collapse at 240cm, mostly within unconsolidated snow. Additional collapse was experienced on top of a thick rain crust at 200cm. While collapse did occur, we have limited concern about this layer. Unconsolidated snow on top of this rain crust varries in depth based on exposure to the wind. This rain crust (at 200cm) is completely exposed in some areas.
