settled powder with no instabilities on low angle terrain

Touring from Rose Meadows we found mostly minimally wind affected settled powder and no signs of instabilities on the mostly 30 degree slopes skied. Even on ski cuts across rolls everything was stable.  We did finally her a whumph on the flats below the meadow in the trees at around 1600. We dug a mini pit and found the 4Jan layer about a foot down, with facets above and below it.

It was slightly overcast but the sun definitely affected the exposed slopes, with plenty of rollerballs evident on the south side of Slide. Wind was minimal but did fill a couple of sections of  skintrack right atop the ridge within an hour.
