Description of Snow, Weather, and Avalanche Conditions:

We did a quick stability test on a north aspect at about 9560ft on Red Lake Peak and got ECTN 13. There was a collapse but no propagation on thin layer of sugary snow sitting on very thin crust 30-35cm from the surface. A thicker layer of sugary snow was below the crust. The crust was so thin and delicate that we did not notice the layer while digging. It seemed like the new snow was so soft and unconsolidated and the crust so thin and delicate that propogation was unlikely in that location. It's unclear if the thin crust was due to sun or rain. Snopack depth of 175cm at that location. Later in the day, we did find a much thicker (supportable) crust over sugary snow on a southern aspect but did not stop for a stability test on that aspect.

We noticed one natural avalanche in the distance below a cliff band on little round top (probably d2). Some people in the group heard a woompf while skiing across flat ground next to crater lake.
