Variable snow conditions in the Wrights Lake Area

We rode in the wrights lake area, west slope of the Sierra today. The day started out sunny and the snow on exposed slopes quickly became wet. Snow on more sheltered slopes and north facing slopes was unconsolidated and good for snowmobiling. We avoided any north facing slopes steeper than 25 degrees due to concerns about the deep slab issue. At 7000’, total snow depth was 105 cm. It appeared that there was an old crust around ~20cm deep with ~85cm of new snow on top. Until about 12 pm, skies were mostly clear, after 12 we had about .5cm of graupel followed by scattered snow showers with no measurable accumulation.  No wind in the sheltered areas we rode. At 7k feet, we did not see any signs of loose wet instabilities. However, at 4pm, on our way back to the highway, we noticed some roller balls on steep south facing slopes at ~6,000 feet.
