Graupel and crusts in Tamarack area

Did a quick, mellow tour today out from the Mt Rose summit parking area west toward Tamarack Peak. Skied a few short laps on N-facing glades down toward Tamarack Lake, then a short lap on a S-facing slope down toward the road. Between 10 AM and 11:15 AM, precipitation was a mixture of mostly graupel, with a few intermittent heavier bursts of snowfall in bigger flakes. Winds mostly light, with some occasional gustiness out of the SE. New snowfall totals between yesterday and today were ~1-2 inches. N-facing aspects were still holding cold, soft snow. On S-facing slopes (in open areas), the new snow was sitting on top of intermittent breakable and supportable suncrusts, with some minor cracking of the suncrust underfoot and some slight slab-formation in the new snow (despite it being shallow). A quick hand pit on a S-facing slope showed alternating new snow and sun/MF crust layers from the past week. The sun started poking out around 11:30, and instantly began warming things up; had some minor glopping of the new snow during the skin back to the car.
