Powderhouse Peak Observations

We went to Powderhouse Peak today to look at snowpack conditions.  A shallow and generally poor snowpack structure exists in this area like many other locations throughout the forecast area.  We did get a couple small whumpfs in open treed areas near the bottom, but snowpack tests did not show any unstable results, nor did we observe any other signs of instabilities.  With a break in storms looking to last at least a week with clear skies, mostly cold nights, and low sun angles expected, the snowpack structure should remain unconsolidated and continue the faceting process.  While the snow depth has increased with these last 2 storms, many obstacles still exist throughout this area.  The recent storm snow has barely covered up some of the rocky granite boulders that this area is known for making getting hurt from contact with obstacles the largest hazard today.
