Scott Peak Obs

We went on a quick tour today to check conditions and monitor the Dec 11th layer. Winds were calm and there was an inch or two of new snow. The Dec 11th pwl is still very obvious with ski pole checks in most open areas, although the crust overlying it is quite strong in the elevation bands we traveled in today. No whumpfs, shooting cracks, or other obvious signs of instability were observed. We stopped to dig in an open area below treeline @ 6740', and found the Dec 11th pwl as expected, with multiple unstable results upon testing (see attached snowpit). Of note- although it is very hard to see, a little bit of surface hoar did get buried at this location, we'll keep an eye on this.
