Powderhouse Snowpit Observations

Went out to check conditions at the base of powderhouse during the lull in the storm between 11am and 1 pm today. Dug a pit and performed a CT and ECT to test how the persistant weak layers are handling the new snow load. It was lightly snowing and the winds were mild to moderate. We saw evidence of wind effect down low that was then covered up by non-wind effected snow by the time we left. Boot pen was 25cm and ski pen was 16 cm. Air temperature was -5 degrees celsius. Snow intensity and winds were picking up by the time we were leaving. 

CT results were CTE 2 @ 20 cm at the interface of last night's snow and the 1/25 snow and CTE 9 @ 35cm down on the 1/5 raincrust. Both of these shears were Q1 and sudden planar. Also had a CTH 29 @ 70 cm on the 12/11 layer that was Q2 and resistant planar. 

ECT results were ECTN 4 @ 20 cm and ECTN 21 @ 45 cm.
