Wind slab on mt Lola

Riding conditions were supprisingly good today as we gained elevation and kept to north aspects. Less crust under the new snow, and on the leeward side of the ridge the storm deposited more snow. I also noticed some softer snow under the old crust that would fail easily in hand sheers. This was in the trees on protected north and north east aspects. But no other instabilities were observed in conjunction with this layer.

We noticed several natural wind slab avalanches that looked to have released during the tail end of the storm. Mainly on wind features, and slopes steeper than 38 degrees. None of the slides were bigger than a D1. Once on top of the Lola ridge I intentionally triggered a small wind slab on a wind deposit. The slab was deeper than I anticipated however the slope was smaller than could injure me. It ran only about 12 feet down slope, was about 15 feet wide and the crown was around 1 to 1.5 feet deep.  
 

we did not observe any other instabilities or avalanches for the rest of our ride.
