Strong Refreeze in the Mt. Rose Area

A strong overnight refreeze of the snow surface occurred in the Mt Rose area overnight.  Firm melt freeze crusts existed in the morning hours that were 6'' + deep.  These crusts softened throughout the morning on sun exposed slopes providing 3'' of soft corn snow conditions.  Soft corn snow existed on Mt. Houghton below about 9800' on SE aspects, with moderate SW winds along with cooler temperatures at higher elevations keeping the snow surface firm near the peak at 10,200'.  On the way back to Tahoe Meadows we skied through multiple aspects with shade and sun exposed terrain.  Snow surfaces were still firm in the shade, with soft and some sticky snow in sun exposed locations into the early afternoon hours.
