Description of Snow, Weather, and Avalanche Conditions:

We went out towards Meiss Meadow for the first time this season. The tour was a mixed bag of conditions varying from exposed solid ice crusts, pockets of 1'' snow from Friday's storm, and hard packed wind effected snow. The solid ice crust was really glazed over and presented slide for life conditions on steeper slopes. Crampons are a must for travel above and near tree line within this zone. At the top of the descent down into the meadow, snow consisted of navigating over hard supportable ice to patches of wind buffed powder. It was a maze of good turns and sketchy turns, eventually conditions improved as we lost elevation and there was fresh unaffected snow to the bottom. Within the meadow and other protected areas small (.5-1mm) surface hoar was observed. There was nothing to speak of regarding signs of instability even with the recent shifts in winds the last couple days, no wind slabs or cracking observed anywhere. Altogether the mountains felt almost stagnant, there was no wind, or transporting snow to speak of. Skies were clear and the temperature was warm all day especially in the sun.
