Description of Snow, Weather, and Avalanche Conditions:

Large cornices from December storms could be an issue. Don't get complacent. Cornices can fall at surprising times.

Today on Mount Judah we witnessed a crack opening North of Judah and South of the reflector towers (picture 1).  This opening between between the ridge and the mass of the cornice looked large enough for a person to fall into, but was hard to tell the exact size of the void.

We also noticed a large team of skiers standing close to the edge of one of the largest cornices just south of Mount Lincoln. While they might have been close enough to the ridge to not be dragged down in the event of a cornice failure, they were certainly pushing the limits.

Respect the danger that cornices pose and give them a wide berth.
