Iron Mountain Snow Pit

Toured up to Iron Mountain to dig my first post AIARE 1 class pit to get a bit of practice making snow observations.  If feedback is possible (admin?) I'd be greatful to hear it.

What I think I observed:

Saw 100cm of right-side up snowpack down to 80cm.  Between 100cm to 80cm was a very hard layer that was difficult to penetrate even with the saw blade (knife).  Cutting through the layer in the column compression test was a real chore.  Every layer is very firm and well consolidated.  I did a pretty aggressive compression test, which passed (CTN) 

I pulled the column down by hand after that, and it broke at the weak layer with moderate force.  Pic 3 is the column break, looks/felt like Q2 or Q3 to me.
