Transitional Snow on Maggies

Skied the Dogleg Couloir on Maggies today. Temps were warm and sunshine was abundant- nearing 40 degrees when we dropped at 10:45. New snow amounts from Wednesday night were minimal at the car, with a few inches up high. The couloir apron is very smooth, and pretty close to fully formed corn. The lower section, was very thin, and the choke itself was narrower than ski-width, involving some sideslipping. The snow through this section was transitional, and has started to undergo melt-freeze transformation, but isn't quite fully ripe yet. About 2-3 inches of softer snow sits on top of a fully-supportable crust, making bootpacking very easy.  The upper section of the couloir is much more wintery in nature, due to the northerly tilt. The central gully had unconsolidated, colder snow, with some evidence of graupel in the most recent storm snow. The skier's left wall, which faces south, had begun transitioning to corn, and the skier's right wall, actually had some cross-loading on it. Two of our party were actually able to kick small wind plates off on this side. The upper headwall and couloir skied excellently, with quite a bit of sluff, although this did not entrain any additional snow, even where the sun was shining. We didn't have any significant pinwheeling or rollerballing during our descent. The trail in to Cascade Falls from Bayview was almost entirely burnt out, as is much of that south facing slope.
