Luther Pass Observation

Wanting to see how much snow fell today I waited about as long as I could to start my tour, so I left the car just after 5pm. Driving up Luther Pass from Meyers there was no evidence of new snow until about 7100 feet when snow began to appear on trees. At the start of my tour at about 7400 feet, there was an inch of new snow. New snow increased with elevation reaching perhaps 5 inches of new at the ridgeline. I was surprised not to find evidence of wind slabs along the section of ridgeline I visited. Below treeline the snow was uncohesive and didn't display any signs of instability. The skiing was mostly enjoyable but harder turns did reveal the firm surface just below the new snow. As total snow depth decreases below perhaps 7700 feet tree debris is becoming more widespread and a bit of a hazard.
