Layer Cake Windslab at Carson Pass

Three different failure layers observed in the new wind slab at Carson Pass today. Over a foot of new snow in many areas, and other areas were wind stripped back to the old snow surface (even in the trees normally sheltered from winds). Visibility was poor, right until my departure at 5pm when the storm appeared to be calming down.

Pics 1 and 2: Wind loaded test slopes failed both very close to the surface (pic 1) and several inches deep (pic 2). Two ECTs propagated on a third weak layer just above the new/old interface.

Pic 3: Snow was so wind blown that it's hard to say what the average was or what fell on wind sheltered slopes (nothing along Frog Lake Ridge was wind sheltered today). But over a foot was measured in several places.
