Small Amounts of New Snow and Wind on Tamarack Peak

We made observations on Tamarack Peak today.  New storm snow amounts were around 2'' along the Mt. Rose highway and Tamarack Lakes trailhead.  Strong SW winds in the late morning decreased in speed throughout the day and shifted to the W.  Blowing snow was observed when the visibility improved along wind exposed ridges and peaks.  Most windward areas were scoured down to firm crusts with limited additional snow available for transport.  Wind slabs were seen up to 4-6'' deep with minor cracking associated with these wind slabs but no propagation.  Snow surface conditions were smooth high density soft snow.  Temperatures remained cold with some cloud cover with a -5c air temp at 9800' on Tamarack Peak.
