No surface hoar and moist to wet near surface facets on Trimmer Peak.

A tour on Trimmer Peak today revealed the expected mix of wind effected snow surfaces in wind exposed areas and sections of lingering unconsolidated snow in wind protected areas on northerly aspects. Southerly aspects held thin, superficial melt-freeze at the surface. We saw no surface hoar whatsoever in this area today. Air temperatures were above freezing with periods of high level cloud cover. No signs of instability observed while on tour in the area.

Near surface facets were prevalent on the northerly aspects we traveled. We noticed these facets were moist on our ascent during the late morning hours. They clumped easily in the hand. By 1 pm, near surface facets had become moist to wet, especially below 7,500' to 8,000'. Skiing was slow and becoming a little sticky on freshly waxed skis, especially below 8,000'. There was a noticeable, progressive change in surface snow moisture from 9,000' down to 6,800' during the early afternoon hours.
