D1 avalanche- test slope on Andesite, and sudden planar tilt test results at lower elevation

While touring during an AIARE 1, we saw signs of recent snow loading from the wind, including sastrugi, pillowy snow and changes in ski penetration. 
In one of the open areas below treeline we did some shovel tilt tests to see if we could identify a layer of buried surface hoar, and to see if it is reacting in this area. We did a shovel tilt test, which resulted in a smooth, planar failure about 5 inches below the surface. 
We reached the summit ridge of Andesite and explored the very small cornice feature on the southern end of the ridge. We identified a very small slope that was steep enough to slide (38°), wind-loaded and too small to bury us if it slid. We put a skier on the slope, and had him jump. He triggered a very small windslab avalanche which slid a very short distance.
