Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Stable crust of 1 to 2 inches with loose snow beneath.  Lower half of terrain from parking area to peak obvious rain layer, stable hard crust. Very slick skin track.  Upper half of terrain, crust becoming more hollow and less dense with larger crystal formation on surface from overnight transpiration.  Off skin track crust began to give under weight of skier.  Skied hourglass: stable good skiing crust with a shaved ice type spray from skis.  At about hourglass gully crust began to break if jump turn weight applied. Snowboard companion could break through with hard pressure. Delicate turning stayed on surface.  Old track and pin wheels were highly dangerous as they were frozen.  Exit of area was survival type turns with sun warmed pockets.  At 10:15am some exposed areas warmed to point of collapsing crust.  As day goes on these will turn to penetrating conditions with much difficulty. One steep convex knoll produced a crust fracture where surrounding five feet broke free and slid 5 feet.  Propagation was 3 inches of crust only. Soft unconsolidated snow below did not move.  Direct sun in afternoon may soften crust enough to produce snow balls.  May need warmer temps to acheive.
