Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

I came to this area to test the Nov 9th facet layer and track changes in this layer. Compared to a pit from 11/28/10 in this same area the Nov 9th facets are more rounded. However, PST's still indicate that fracture propagation along this layer remains possible. Elsewhere in the Mt. Rose area, 1-3 inches of new snow sits on the surface in most places. Below this new snow lies the dense storm snow from late last week. Bonding in the upper snowpack between the recent snow and layers below it appears strong. On northerly aspects the snow remains soft and supportive. On southerly aspects a sun crust has formed up to 9200'. Test slopes, drifts, and wind-loaded pillows did not react to ski cuts or the additional weight of a person.
