Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

The rain crust that exists in this region up to 9,000' kept much of the existing snow on this slope during the recent gale force east wind event of the past few days. The wind sculpted features in the photo that look like a crown line are not. On that section of the slope, the wind was able to remove the rain crust and scour much of the snow from the slope. The higher density wind pillow at the top of the slope resisted wind scouring and formed sustrugi, creating the appearance of a possible old crown. There was no evidence of any type of flank or avalanche debris anywhere down slope.
