Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

The forecasted new snowfall did not materialize in this area today. New snow amounts were limited to a trace at best rather than the 3 to 6 inches that were forecast. Winds were light and limited to ridgetops. No wind transport of snow was observed. No other obvious signs of snowpack instability observed in this area today.

Photo 1: Melt freeze surface crust exists in sun exposed areas on SE-S-SW aspects up to at least 9,500'. Shaded areas on these aspects did not have this surface crust.

Photo 2: Settlement cones around trees provided evidence of 1 to 2 feet of snowpack settlement in this area over the past week.

Photo 3: Cloud cover lingering over the southern half of the Sierra Crest portion of the forecast area. Skies cleared over the Carson Range and northern half of the Sierra Crest by mid day.
