More detailed information about the snowpack:

The 12/14 rain crust was 8-10'' thick in the Mt. Judah area at 8000'.  It was very strong showing no signs of facet growth and didn't show any weakness with stability tests.  There are still some lingering stability test failures within the storm snow on a graupel layer. This layer did not show any signs of propagation potential with other tests and no other informal observations showed any concern with this layer besides sluffing in steeper terrain.

Photo:  Surface hoar was on all aspects and elevations in this area well into the mid afternoon.  In protected, below treeline areas the SH was up to several cm's in size.  With the forecasted storm tonight, light winds with cold temps, this SH layer will likely be buried and become a potential weak layer.
