Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 
Observations from Mt. Tallac.  Previous roller ball activity/point releases on steep S/SE aspects from yesterday, slightly limited today with the NE winds keeping temps cool above 8000'.  Melt freeze crusts starting to form on S-SE aspects at mid to low elevations.  No wind transport observed or evidence of transport from the NE winds.  Upper exposed terrain had some wind effect but not widespread, the north bowl still had good unconsolidated snow.  Heavy sluffing occuring on steep unskied terrain, N-NE aspects at upper elevations.  Slightly more variable snow conditions at upper elevations from the recent winds with the mid elevations offering the best unconsolidated snow quality on N-NE aspects.       Photo #1: Surface hoar, 1-2mm in size on most aspects in the morning.  The sun destroying the surface hoar by midday on solar aspects. Photo #2: Point releases on steep S/SE aspects around 8000' from yesterday. Photo #3: Mid winter snowpack in Desolation Wilderness.
