Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack: 

Very thin snowpack in the Mt. Rose area with most solar aspects completely free of snow.  On shaded aspects, NW-E, most upper elevation slopes were wind scoured by the earlier season NE/E winds and are also snow free.  Where undisturbed snow does exist, there is anywhere from 2-6'' of very weak sugary snow.  Boot pen is to the ground in these locations.  In more wind exposed areas a firm wind crust exists on top of the existing weak faceted snowpack.  All the avalanche slopes viewed today have very little if any snow and where snow existed there appeared to be very good anchoring.

On trails and in some wind scoured locations very firm icy conditions exist.
