More detailed information about the snowpack:

A dusting of recent snow remained on the surface on the northerly aspects in this area today. Below 7400 ft. the snow surface was wet and "sticky" on even the northerly aspects. Above 7400 ft soft cold facetted snow existed on the surface. The snowpack would support a person on skis in some areas. Below the surface the snowpack consisted of the well developed Dec 7th facet layers in the bottom third of the pack with less well developed facets above this layer. Data indicated that these upper layers are losing strength and continuing to become less slab-like. Snowpit tests and general observations showed a snowpack with lots of potential weak layers without a consistent and continuous slab above them.
