More detailed information about the snowpack: 

A 30 to 60 cm snowpack existed on the N-NE aspects above 8000 ft. in the Rubicon Peak area today. The Dec. 7th facet layers still remain in the bottom third of the snowpack. Above these weak facets, a small slab-like layer exists with a soft weak layer of old near surface facets above it. Since these near surface facets were buried on Jan. 11th, they will have the moniker of the Jan 11th facets. Above the Jan 11th facet layer 2 to 3 inches of snow that fell on Saturday resided. Tests and general observations showed that even though the facet layers remain weak, they can currently support the small snowpack resting above them. Below 8100 ft. a small crust existed at the base of the new snow.
