More detailed information about the snowpack:

Even with the above freezing temperatures overnight there was firm snow surface conditions from the trailhead at Old 40 at 10:15am at 7200'.  SW winds were moderate in speed at Wildflower Ridge around 7700' and that was helping to cool the snow surface and keep ski pen and boot pen to a minimum.  Skiing off of the East side of Mt. Judah had good spring conditions with 2-3'' of soft moist snow on a firm crust at noon.  West aspects were also in good condition in the early afternoon hours with good travel.  By 2pm the snow surface became sticky below 7700' and around 7600' there was 6''of punchy wet snow on the surface.  Several small test slopes failed easily with small loose wet avalanches involving this 6'' of wet surface snow.  Our route at this elevation did not involve any larger avalanche terrain but from this 7600' level and below the wind was not enough to help cool the snow surface.

Only minor roller ball activity observed in this area today.

Photo#1:10:15am at 7200' trailhead the snow surface was firm with no penetration from ski pole or ski.

Photo#2:  The N ridge of Mt. Judah.  Coverage from Old 40 trailhead up to Judah was possible on skis the whole way with firm snow in spots and some movement around dirt/rocks and obstacles.

Photo#3:  2pm at 7500' small test slope showed small loose wet and roller balls.
