Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

An overall thin snow surface refreeze occurred in this area last night. At 9:30 am, shaded areas held 5 cm of supportable melt-freeze surface crust 1F to P hard. Sun exposed E aspects were melting rapidly at that time with boot pen to 15 cm (photo 1). Probing in the E aspect portion of Hourglass Bowl at the exact site of the snowpit dug on April 9 revealed an HS of 95 cm (E aspect, 9,760'). This is a 45 cm decrease in HS over the past 6 days due to melt.

Descending the E aspect portion of Hourglass Bowl at 10:45 am revealed surface wet snow amounts of 4 to 8 cm. In areas of 8 cm wet surface snow, conditions were marginally skier supportable.

Photo 1: Boot pen of 15 cm at 9:45 am, E aspect, 9,000', noted lat/long.

Photo 2: Mount Houghton S-SE aspects holding snow in the 9,400' to 10,500' elevation range. This is one of the few S-SE aspect locations holding continuous snowcover in this area.

Photo 3: Rapid melt out to dirt on S-SE aspects on Incline Lake Peak and Rose Knob Peak.
