More detailed information about the snowpack:

Fairly well developed near surface facets exist above 8,000' on shaded northerly aspects in this area. With no major new snow loading events in the forecast, this is not an immediate concern. Old near crust facets did not appear problematic in this area.

Snowcover is very thin below 8,000' making over snow travel difficult (photo). Above 8,000' snowpack depth increases rapidly and over snow travel conditions are very manageable.

E aspect areas with sun exposure held surface wet snow up to 1 inch deep at 11 am. Shaded areas on northerly aspects held a thin surface crust from past melt-freeze. In most areas this crust was easily breakable and allowed for manageable travel conditions.
