Above 8000 feet winter conditions persisted on Trimmer peak. Widespread near surface faceting was observed in even small open areas. Large surface hoar was observed in wide open areas near the base of the slide paths at roughly 7600 feet.
Leaving this area around noon, the stronger predicted winds had not yet arrived.
Photo 1: Despite relatively warm temperatures snow still clung to tree branches in wind protected areas between 8200-8600 feet. In this zone near surface faceting was evident as well.
Photo 2: Following the old skin track, we found it covered by recently wind transported snow. In steeper areas these small fresh wind slabs were cracking and moving downslope under skier weight. No other instabilities were observed.
