Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Corn snow conditions existed in this area up to our high point of 9600' on SE/S aspects at 11am.  Strong SW ridge winds were helping to keep the snow surface from warming too quickly with SW/W aspects still firm at mid day.  A 4'' established melt freeze surface crust existed with the top couple inches of warm and soft snow providing good travel conditions.  Less cloud cover was observed at the southern end of the forecast area with no rain.  Some sticky and punchy snow was present near the trailhead below 8700'.  No signs of any loose wet instabilities today.

Photo 1: Looking north along the Sierra Crest - note the more widespread cloud cover north of Emerald Bay - Driving back it started to rain lightly around Homewood at around 12:30-1 pm.

Photo 2: Cracks near the edge of a small cornice and an older cornice collapse
