Cold, light snow at Carson Pass

2-6" of cold, unconsolidated snow on wind sheltered slopes, with up to 10" observed on wind loaded slopes. However, wind loaded snow remained loose and uncohesive. Ski cutting test slopes produced loose dry activity, but no signs of slab instability. 

Several mitt pits showed a thin crust under the new snow, with well developed facets under the crust and small, early stage facets just above the crust.

Formal tests performed about 1/2 mile apart from each other on NE aspects between 8600-8800ft: Compression Tests showed Sudden Planar and Sudden Collapse results on the larger facets, but Extended Column Tests failed to propagate. Snow above the facets likely not deep enough nor slab-like enough to promote propagation yet.

Light to Moderate wind transport was observed near and above treeline. Winds remained calm below treeline. Winds were generally NW but did vary throughout our tour. Some subtle "tiger striping" was observed from a distance on Round Top and The Sisters. Plenty of snow remains for continued wind transport and slab development.
