Observations from Cason Pass

Winter conditions on Carson Pass. New snow totals ranged from 6-12 inches depending on wind transport. The old snow was a firm crust that ranged from impenetrable to maybe pencil hard. The new snow was mostly deep enough to allow turns without hitting the old crust. Visibility varied from very limited to good when the clouds parted. Observed natural avalanche activity was limited to very small loose dry slides below cornices and on steep ridges.
