Rain transitioning to snow

Pic 1: Freezing rain had just transitioned to wet snow around noon. A few inches of snow accumulated by mid afternoon, with no signs of storm instabilities observed. Shovel tilts and test slopes indicated new snow was bonding well to old snow and ice. Shovel tilts produced planar results on facets within the previous week's snow, under the rain crust that was thin and breakable a few days ago, but now is 1-2 inches thick and generally supportable. This previous crust appeared to stop today's rain from penetrating down into the facets.

Pic 2: Strong W wind was transporting snow and it was even beginning to stick to any irregularities in the old scoured and icy surface along ridgetops. Just downwind of ridges and cross loaded features there was already almost a foot of wind deposited snow, but only in the most wind deposited areas. This quickly tapered back to only a few inches. 

By 3pm, snow level appeared to be somewhere around the elevation of Luther Pass. Rain in Hope Valley, and snow at Luther Pass but no accumulation on bare soil off the side of the road.
