Tamarack Peak Observations

Moderate SW winds with cloudy skies today on Tamarack Peak.  Little to no snow transport was observed or seen on higher peaks in this area.  Most windward slopes have limited snow for transport with a crust on some of these aspects preventing wind transport.  Current surface hoar and the Dec. 4th surface hoar layer were both identified at the pit location.  Surface hoar was widespread on the surface on shaded aspects.   Snowpack tests that artificially load both surface hoar layers showed weakness and that propagation would be likely when we receive additional loading.  Currently, there is not a slab above the Dec. 4th surface hoar layer to warrant concern.   Early season conditions exist in this area with many obstacles present.
